The car was registered in three countries. Is that a red flag?

asked by Sarah on

The history shows the car ran in Germany, the Netherlands and now Belgium. Should I worry?

Changing countries is not a defect in itself, because many used cars circulate between markets. What matters is why and when. The sequence of registration countries is also a good reference for mileage: the readings from each country should form one rising line.

We look for gaps with no readings, a sudden mileage jump after a country change or a registration just before the sale. A car from several markets may also have parts or equipment that differ from the local spec, so we check the documents and options.

The history report is part of every inspection, so you see the registration timeline next to the measurements. For a cross-border purchase also read the export plates guide.
