A listing says "export only". Is that normal or are they hiding defects?

asked by Tom on

A dealer in Belgium offers a car "export only" without a warranty and without a Car-Pass. Why the difference?

"Export" is often just a sales route for foreign buyers: the car leaves on export plates and some domestic formalities fall away. The word alone does not mean a defect, but it proves nothing either.

The risk is that the seller sometimes cuts obligations (warranty, paperwork), and a buyer from abroad has a harder time enforcing claims. So for "exports" two steps are a must: a viewing before payment and a VIN check against the history.

The export formalities are covered in the export plates guide, and buying unseen in this guide. You can order an inspection from us.
