Used VW Transporter: how do I check an ex-company van before buying?

asked by Elena on

I am buying a T6 Transporter for work; it was a company vehicle. What do I check besides mileage?

An ex-company van usually has high mileage and heavy use, so we judge wear, not just the odometer. We check the load floor and loading damage, the sliding doors and their rails, suspension, clutch and gearbox and the exhaust with its DPF.

It is worth looking for traces of racking or conversions, sill and wheel-arch corrosion and equipment that was quietly removed. We compare the service history with mileage and the paint condition with measurements.

Our full inspection covers vans up to 3.5 t (/en/pre-purchase-car-inspection). How to turn defects into a lower price is in the guide.
