Accident history or paint thickness: which matters more when buying?
asked by Luis on
I have two cars: one with a clean report, one with a note about minor damage but a documented repair. Which makes more sense?

Neither on its own. The history says what was reported, and the paint reading says what was actually done to the body. When they agree you have a firmer picture, and when they disagree that is the most valuable signal.
A car with documented minor damage and original paint everywhere except the repaired spot can be a better pick than one with a "clean" history and two repainted doors. You only know after measuring every panel.
We show the readings in microns on 10 panels, with gap assessment and a repair-cost estimate, in the report (/en/sample-inspection-report). The reading rules are in the paint thickness guide.
